During the project inspection phase, the expert group conducted a review through on-site inspections, data verification, and outcome examination of the Zhonghai Energy Storage Iron-Chromium Liquid Flow Battery Energy Storage Project. They visited the 2.5MW/15MWh iron-chromium liquid flow battery source-grid-load-storage commercial energy storage station in the New Energy Industrial Park of Lankao Economic Development Zone. They conducted a comprehensive and professional technical review of the core facilities such as the operation status of the energy storage system, key parameters, intelligent control platform, as well as the technological innovation, performance stability, safety reliability, and market application value of this project. The deputy general manager and project leader of Zhonghai Energy Storage, Gong Jiyu, gave a systematic explanation of the project's construction process, technical principles, actual operating parameters, and industrial application results. All the power stacks used in this project are self-developed 40kW power stacks, with a cycling frequency exceeding 20,000 times, a system design life of over 20 years, an annual charging and discharging electricity volume of 3,517,500 kilowatt-hours, and an annual reduction of approximately 54,500 tons of standard coal and 20,700 tons of carbon dioxide emissions (taking Henan Province as an example). The key indicator data of this project are excellent, demonstrating the maturity and reliability of Zhonghai Energy Storage's independently developed iron-chromium liquid flow energy storage equipment in system integration efficiency, charging and discharging stability, thermal management control, and intelligent operation and maintenance, fully verifying the advanced technology of the product for multi-scenario applications such as grid peak shaving, industrial energy storage, new energy support, and computing-electricity coordination. The evaluation experts were able to intuitively verify the outstanding advantages of Zhonghai Energy Storage's iron-chromium liquid flow battery in terms of strong safety, low cost, large scale, long lifespan, high performance, and wide application. 

Four core innovations, achieving full-chain self-control and autonomy 

During the technical inquiry session, the expert group focused on the entire industrial chain dimensions such as the innovation of Zhonghai Energy Storage's iron-chromium liquid flow battery, the maturity of the process, safety and reliability, large-scale intelligent control level, grid adaptability, economic and social benefits, industrialization promotion prospects, etc., carefully reviewing the product inspection reports, patent certificates, experimental data, process documents and other complete technical materials. They also conducted special inquiries face-to-face with the company's technical personnel. The research team detailedly reported the background of product development, technical principles, core processes, innovative highlights, test data, trial production process and industrialization application plans. They also conducted special defenses on the breakthroughs and optimizations in core technologies such as safety protection, energy efficiency improvement, intelligent control, environmental adaptability and long-term operation in the product. During the expert appraisal stage, the expert panel of the appraisal committee conducted on-site investigations, raised inquiries, held concentrated discussions, and verified the relevant materials. After thorough discussion and comprehensive analysis and consultation, they unanimously reached an appraisal conclusion: The technical data of the project is complete and the data is detailed, meeting the conditions for outcome evaluation. The project overcame the problems such as hydrogen evolution in iron-chromium liquid flow batteries, low chromium activity, insufficient mass transfer, and poor consistency of the cell stack. It successfully developed key core technologies in materials, cell stacks, and system integration. It achieved a series of key innovations in electrode materials, electrolyte, cell stack design, and energy storage system integration, improving the activity of the electrodes, enhancing the stability of the electrolyte, solving problems such as uneven fluid distribution within single cells and cell stacks, and successfully developed a 40kW high-power density cell stack with a working current density of 160mA/c㎡ and a single-stack efficiency of 82%. It also overcame key technologies in the design integration and intelligent control of the energy storage system, and implemented a 2.5MW/15MWh iron-chromium liquid flow battery energy storage demonstration project. The system achieved a comprehensive efficiency of 67%. The project now holds 31 invention patents, including 1 international patent. It has published 21 papers and led the formulation of 1 industry standard, forming a complete independent intellectual property system. It has excellent innovativeness and practicality and meets the conditions for industrialization promotion. The overall technology of this project has reached the international leading level. 

At the same time, the expert group provided professional guidance on aspects such as product iteration and upgrade, scenario expansion, and cost optimization for the company. This guidance pointed out the direction for the company's subsequent technological research and market expansion. Through this assessment, the innovative advantages of China Ocean Energy's iron-chromium liquid flow battery technology were prominently displayed, the manufacturing process was mature, the equipment operation was safe and reliable, the project's economic and social benefits were outstanding, and it has fully met the conditions for large-scale industrialization implementation. This will strongly lead the domestic iron-chromium liquid flow battery industry towards standardization, large-scale production, and intelligence, providing solid support for the construction of new power grids and green computing infrastructure. 

Consolidate consensus and jointly draw a new blueprint for long-term energy storage. 

This appraisal meeting received strong support from the Ministry of Science and Technology, relevant departments of Henan Province, Kaifeng City, and Lankao County. Relevant leaders shared their views based on the technology and industrial practice of iron-chromium liquid flow batteries, jointly drawing a new blueprint for the development of long-duration energy storage industry. 

The Party Secretary and Minister of Organization of Lankao County said in his speech that Lankao County, as the birthplace of Jiao Yulu's spirit, the first county in China to pilot rural energy revolution and the deepening pilot county for energy revolution, has relied on the layout of industrial chain resources to develop new energy industries and gather high-quality industrial projects. After China Ocean Energy Storage was located in Lankao, it has deeply engaged in the research and development of iron-chromium liquid flow batteries, built the first fully digital intelligent factory in China and the world's first dedicated intelligent manufacturing production line, achieving independent breakthroughs in key technologies and large-scale implementation, driving the employment of over 500 local people, and achieving coordinated development of economy, society and people's livelihood.
