The Jinbei Base energy storage project has a total capacity of 820 MW/3,280 MWh, located across three counties and districts: Xinrong, Yungang, and Zuoyun. The project's commencement marks a solid step forward in achieving the "wind-solar-thermal-storage, multi-energy complementarity" goal for the Jinbei Base. At the Yungang North Station, the project adopts a hybrid energy storage solution combining 800 MW lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries with 20 MW vanadium redox flow batteries: LFP batteries provide rapid response to short-term, high-frequency power fluctuations, smoothing out brief variations in wind and solar output; while vanadium redox flow batteries leverage their long-duration storage capability to deliver continuous, stable, large-scale power support.
Upon commissioning, the project will enable integrated coordination among generation, grid, load, and storage, facilitating joint operation of wind, solar, thermal, and storage resources. This will achieve an over 95% utilization rate for renewable energy, significantly enhancing grid operational safety and stability, and providing replicable and scalable practical experience for the large-scale development of new power systems.
The Jinbei Base project is a concrete initiative to implement China’s “dual carbon” strategy and build a new type of power system. It serves as a landmark project for transforming and upgrading Shanxi’s energy structure and accelerating the development of new quality productive forces. Moving forward, Jinbei Energy Company will strictly adhere to the three bottom lines—safety and environmental protection, engineering quality, and construction schedule—refine and improve construction plans, closely monitor key milestones, and advance the project with high-standard management, high-quality construction, and high-efficiency execution, making significant contributions to Shanxi’s energy transition and low-carbon development.
