At the China National Nuclear Corporation Dayao Qixing Photovoltaic Power Station in Zhaojiadian Town, Dayao County, vast fields of solar panels continuously convert sunlight into electricity. This power station is the first photovoltaic project to be commissioned in Dayao County during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. Over four years, the installed capacity of new energy projects operated by CGN Chuxiong Dayao Wind Power Co., Ltd. has surged from 90,500 kilowatts to 609,100 kilowatts, generating 970 million kilowatt-hours annually and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 3.2 million tons each year.
By the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan, the total installed capacity of new energy projects in the prefecture included in the provincial list across twelve batches exceeded 20 million kilowatts, with photovoltaic projects surpassing 15 million kilowatts—both figures ranking first in the province. The cumulative installed capacity of new energy projects put into operation has surpassed 12 million kilowatts, a fivefold increase compared to the beginning of the 14th Five-Year Plan, establishing a mature integrated green energy industrial base combining wind, solar, hydro, and storage.
To meet the core demand for flexible regulation within the power system, Chuxiong Prefecture was the first in the province to release the "Chuxiong Prefecture New Energy Storage Industry Development Plan (2025–2035)," creating a diversified and complementary framework for regulatory resources and innovatively building a multi-tiered system integrating shared storage, independent storage, and new technological storage solutions. To date, the total operational capacity of new energy storage in Chuxiong Prefecture has reached 1.47196 million kilowatts, accounting for about one-fifth of the province’s total capacity and ranking first in the province. Among these, the Yongren Zhixin Independent Energy Storage Demonstration Project is the province’s first grid-connected centralized shared new energy storage demonstration project, while the Lufeng City All-Vanadium Flow Battery Energy Storage Project is the province’s first grid-side shared energy storage project using all-vanadium redox flow technology. Both projects have become provincial benchmarks, leading industry development. Additionally, the Yunnan Lufeng Pumped Storage Power Station project is among the first pumped storage projects in the province to receive approval, and the CGN Chuxiong High-Tech Zone Gas Power Generation Project—the province’s first gas-fired power generation project—has passed provincial expert evaluation and received national construction indicators, soon to be implemented. Upon completion, these two projects will significantly enhance the power system’s peak-shaving and frequency regulation capabilities.
As a key node in the West-to-East Power Transmission corridor, Chuxiong Prefecture has established a main power transmission network comprising “four direct and eighteen AC” lines, ranking first in the province in terms of transmission scale. The Southern Power Grid Yunnan Chuxiong Power Supply Bureau actively integrates into regional development, collaborating closely with local government to build the Southern Power Grid’s first hundred-megawatt-level new energy aggregation substation—the 500 kV Guanghui Substation—and 37 supporting new energy grid projects including the 220 kV Duozhuqing. Meanwhile, efforts are accelerating to establish a robust backbone grid structure in Chuxiong featuring “four zones, two horizontal corridors, one vertical corridor, and one center,” ensuring flexible, safe, and stable operations. Key grid projects such as the expansion of the 500 kV Lucheng Substation, the 220 kV Chamu and Guangluu transmission and transformation projects, and the expansion of the Lishi Switching Station have been completed, effectively opening major arteries for clean energy transmission. These developments greatly improve grid reliability and ensure efficient delivery of clean energy from western and northwestern Yunnan regions as well as local new energy sources in Chuxiong, strengthening the safety and stability of the West-to-East Power Transmission main channel.
